Referring to a photograph captioned “A WAPDA worker repairs a transformer amid rain which can lead to a mishap” published in Daily Time
s on January 19, 2017, the Pakistan Water and Power Devel
opment Authority (WAPDA) spokesperson has clarified that subsequent to bifurcation of its power wing in 2007 in the backdrop of power sector reforms, the WAPDA has nothing to d
o with the matters relating
to electricity.
“Now WAPDA only deals with construction of dams and hydropower projects and op
eration and maintenance of the existing hydel power stations. Except hydel gen
eration in public sector, all other matters related
to electricity come under the domain of various public sector companies including power gen
eration companies (GENCOs), National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) and Distribution Companies (DISCOs).”
The issue highlighted through the said photograph relates to the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) and not the WAPDA,” said the spokesman.
