LAHORE: Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) Chairman Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi has appealed to religious organisations of the country as well as clerics and religious scholars and the public to stay away from any confrontation and getting involved into any volatile situation.
The PUC chairman also demanded the government to expose elements responsible for making amendment to declaration of electoral reforms bill. He urged leadership of Faizabad protesters and the government to resolve prevailing blockade through peaceful talks.
Talking to representatives of Pakistan Ulema Council and ‘Dar-ul-Aftaa’ here on Sunday, he said that security forces of the country should stay away from taking action against Faizabad protesters. He said that setting alight public properties was completely against Islamic teachings.
Referring to the now-restored amendment to declaration of electoral reforms bill, Ashrafi said that it would be illegal and unconstitutional act, if the government did not expose the elements who coined this mayhem in the country.
He requested religious communities and clerics to ask their followers to remain peaceful. “Protesters of religious communities should stage peaceful protest demonstrations without making loss to the public and government properties.”
