ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Tuesday to personally carry out an inquiry into the leak of the controversial ‘Dawn story’, a local news agency reported.
In a meeting, Nawaz apparently said to Nisar said that he completely trusts him and the incident should be independently investigated.
A Dawn’s reporter – Cyril Almeida – in his story ‘Act against militants or face international isolation, civilians tell military’ described what came to light at a high-level civil-military leadership meeting – in which the military’s policies on militancy was allegedly criticised.
Almeida was put on the Exit Control List (ECL) and a formal investigation was ordered into the story. The travel ban, however, was lifted on Friday. The military, on the other hand, had expressed serious concerns over the feeding of fabricated stories by the media and viewed it as breach of national security.
